The old wooden freighter COMMODORE, owned by the Western Transit Co. has been sold to the Illinois Naval Militia. The vessel is one of the oldest freighters on the lakes. She was built in 1875 and is 265 ft. long, with a 42 ft. beam. She registered at 2,082 gross tons.
      The old steamer will be used as a training ship for the naval militia at Chicago. The purchase was completed by Edward E. Evers, representing the state authorities. The boat is said to be worth about $30,000.
