The sidewheel stm. EIGHTH OHIO was brought to Bay City some months since to go on the shore line, has for some weeks been at Ballentine & Co.'s shipyard in process of general overhauling and refitting as a screw propeller. The work was completed a day or two since, and on Tuesday the steamer was launched successfully. Wednesday she made a trial trip out into the bay, taking a small party of invited guests, and the shipbuilders and machinists who have been engaged upon her rebuild. The results of the rebuilding demonstrate the fact that the steamer, which was once a sidewheeler and was good for 6 or 7 miles an hour, now gets through the water at a rate of speed which is equal to most of the passenger steamers on the lakes. On her trial trip she ran at the rate of 12 miles an hour. Messrs. Ballentine & Co. have thoroughly overhauled the vessel's hull, and wherever the timber was at all defective it has been replaced. She has new keelsons 10 by 10 inches, and has been otherwise stiffened, while the foundation of her machinery has been constructed with the greatest regard to strength. The hull is but 8 years old, and was to be in better condition than was expected.

The EIGHTH OHIO, which used to run on the river here, having been built over into a propeller, is said to be quite a fast boat. She runs between Saginaw and Au Sable.
