Occasionally there passes this way one of the old time vessels which during the earlier period of their exsistence were looked upon as mammoths of their class, and faultless in model and fit-out. Of these special mention may be made of the S.F. GALE now 26 years afloat and yet a grain carrier. She came out as a brig, and was among the first vessels built at Chicago, and admitted to be one of the finest vessels afloat. She is now a fore-and-aft vessel and passed here yesterday.
