Maurice B. Grover (Barge), 6 Jun 1906
Description
- Full Text
Chicago, June 5 - The PASADENA, once one of the best steamers on the lakes, will come from the shipowner's dock in about a week as a tow barge. She will go behind the GLADSTONE. The M.B. GROVER recently converted as a tow barge, will be towed by the ALVA.
The vessels belong to the Bradley fleet of Cleveland, and the unusual course of converting steamers into tow barges was followed when boilers had to be replaced. The boats will carry about 25% more as barges than they did as steamers, which is one of the advantages in these times of low rates.
