The prop. INDEPENDENCE was to have left Chicago for Buffalo on the 16th. inst. We understand she has been considerably improved - a new upper deck, with saloon, state rooms, and accommodations for steerage passengers having been added to her. The practicabitity of burning coal instead of wood for the purpose of generating steam has been tested, with a satisfactory result, and we learn that coal will be used hereafter exclusively. - Commercial
