U. S. Steam Frigate MICHIGAN - The following are the dimensions of the U. S. Steam Frigate MICHIGAN, as furnished by a correspondent:
      Length of keel, 156'4"
      Length on deck, 167'6"
      Length overall, 176'6"
      Breadth of beam, 27'6"
      Extreme breadth, 45'10"
      Depth of hold, 12'10"
      Mean draught of water when launched, 4' 1 1/2"
      Draught of water, fully equipped for service, 8'10"
      She has 2 inclined low pressure engines of 85 Horse power each
      Diameter of cylinder, 36"
      Length of stroke, 96"
      Diameter of wheels, 21'8"
      Length of paddles, 8'
      Tonnage, 500.
      The MICHIGAN has three masts with square sails forward and fore-and-aft on the after masts. All the lower standing rigging is of chains. This ship is constructed entirely of iron, with the exception of her spar and promenade decks, which is 4" planks. Her beams are T rails, (or double flanged) 6 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches. Stern 8 by 1 3/4 inches. Stern post, 6 by 2. Distance between ribs and beams, 24 inches. Planking iron (boiler plates;) lower or bottom plate 3/4 inch forward, 3/8, aft 5/16 of an inch.
      This ship and the engines were built by Mr. Samuel Stackhouse, of the firm of Stackhouse & Tomlinson, Pittsburgh, in 1842, and launched at Erie, 5th Dec., 1842.
      The MICHIGAN is considered, by competent judges, to be one of the best iron steamboats of her class afloat. Her performance under steam has been highly creditable.
The battery at present consists of but one 68 pound Paixhan gun. She is constructed for 14 guns, viz: two 68 pounders and 12 thirty two pound carronades.
