A large number of people assembled at Fitzgerald's shipyard Saturday last to witness the launch of Capt. E.A. Nicholson's schooner. Everything was in readiness to have her off at 4 P.M. and just as she was about to be launched, the builders received telegraphic orders from the owners to "wait a while, we are coming". They did wait, and then received another dispatch to go ahead anyway. This dispatch was dated at Marine City and revealed the fact that the captain and party of friends started to come up in a little boat and that she had become disabled and obliged to return. On receipt of the second dispatch, the workmen were ordered to go ahead. At a given signal the new vessel glided into the stream, greeted by the cheers and waving of handkerchiefs of the people on shore and on board the different crafts lying in the vicinity. She is named after her new owner, E.A. NICHOLSON. As she lies at the dock near where she was launched she presents a fine appearance. She is painted a deep green color and has her name in gilt on the quarter. The riggers are swarming all over at present and in a few days her spars will be set up and she will be complete. The dimensions are as follows: Length on keel 185 feet; length overall 190 feet; beam 33 feet; depth of hold 13 feet 6 inches. She is to be commanded by Capt. Michael Fitzgerald and Mr. Hugh McGaw as first mate. It is to be regretted that Capt. Nicholson and his steamer load of guests did not arrive in time to see the launch, not alone from the fact that thereby they missed a fine sight, but the party present here, missed assisting the opportunity to demolish the quantities of "ships stores" that they would bring up, the stores no doubt consisted of a fine collection.
