A report having been circulated that the excursion stm. PERIWINKLE was unsafe, the following certificate is furnished by the underwriters' inspectors:
To Whom It May Concern
We the undersigned, having been called upon to examine the prop. PERIWINKLE, state that we went on board of the said propeller on the 17th of June, 1884, and that we thoroughly examined her from stem to stern, by boring her frames in the 4 compartments; that we found no decay in either frames or ceiling, to affect the strength of the propeller, that found being but very slight on the face of a few frames. The propellers bottom is solid making her a safer vessel to come in contact with any hard substance than a spaced frame vessel. In our opinion she is a safe and seaworthy vessel in every particular, well worthy of the confidence of the traveling public and fully entitiled to class A2 in the "Inland Lloyds Register."
