The SWALLOW.-- The new fore-and-aft schooner Swallow, of which mention has already been made, was launched yesterday afternoon from Campbell and Owen’s shipyard, at 3 0’clock, and in accordance with the programme, precisely. The day, though cloudy, was all that could be desired, otherwise, for the occasion, and a large number, accordingly were in attendance. At the hour appointed, and at a given signal, she dashed beautifully from the ways into the elements on which she has to ride hereafter. Her model and construction throughout certainly reflects much credit on her builders, and in out opinion, she is not surpassed by any former craft launched from the same yard. Her length is 143 feet,; overall beam, 26 feet, 4 inches; depth 11 1/2 feet; and measures 395 tons or carrying capacity of 20,000 bushels of corn. Everything pertaining to her fit out is entirely new, comprising all the improvements of the day. Her rigging has been fitted out, and her sails manufactured at John Bloom’s sail loft, and of course, have been got up in proper shape. The SWALLOW will be commanded by Captain George Elsey, a sailor well qualified for the position, and formerly master of the schooner WHITE CLOUD.
