Torrent & McDonald's new steam barge was successfully launched at the Detroit Drudock Co. on Saturday afternoon, at 4:30. The launch was not expected to take place until Monday, but the work was hurried up so that all things were found to be in readiness at the hour named, and she was sent into the water. The boat is 151' (OA) x 28'8" x 10'6". She is 2 masted, single decked, iron strapped and provided with a center board. When launched, without her masts or fit out, she drew 4 ft. of water aft and 3 ft. forward, an average of 3 ft. 6 inches. It is reported that the name TORRENT has been selected for the new boat. She is intended for the lumber trade, and was built under the superintendence of John C. Parker, which is equal to saying that she is thoroughly seaworthy in all respects.
