The schooner TORRENT cleared from this port with her first cargo of grain, Tuesday afternoon. She is a new vessel, of fine model and staunch build, with an outfit of canvas and rigging of the first class, and has a cabin handsome enough for an Admiral. She is commanded by Capt. J.G. Hulbert, formerly of the schr. COL. COOK. The TORRENT is owned by G.W. Bissell, of Detroit, and was loaded here by C.L. Bissel, taking 18,369 bu, wheat for Buffalo, at 20 cents freight amounting to $3,672. SHe was built at Newport by J.F. & W.C. Dixon, and is a credit to her builders in every particular. Dimensions are 125 (keel) x 30 x 11 ft. and measures 411 tons. More good vessels possessing the qualifications, of large capacity with light draft and good sailing qualities have come out this season than in any previous years. and the TORRENT takes rank with the best of them. - Chicago Dem.
