THE ALPENA DISCOVERED

Muskegon, Mich., Oct. 30. -- Captain Christ. Baker of the schooner L.B. Coates reports passing a portion of the Alpena's wreck, fastened by the netting of the upper deck to something on the bottom of the lake, five or six fathoms under water. He could see large white stanchions fastened to the netting. Captain Baker says there is something holding it firmly to the bottom, or the large stanchions and other portions of the deck in sight would float to the surface. The wreck bears southwest by south from Saugatuck and northwest half-west from South Haven. Captain Baker took soundings about the wreck which showed just twenty fathoms."
