THE QUICKEST TRIP ON RECORD - The schooner E S J Bemis*, Captain McAuley, has made the remarkable run from Chicago to Buffalo and back to Detroit, inside of nine days. The arrivals and clearances of vessels at the above ports show clearly that the record is no fiction. During the above passage she was detained 24 hours at Pigeon Bay by head winds. This feat was never before performed by any other vessel in the same time.
