River Queen (Steamboat), 22 May 1864

Description
Full Text

A very pleasant excursion around Grand Island was had upon
the new stm. RIVER QUEEN, on Saturday last. The boat is staunch
and safe, and has been fitted up with a view to the accommodation
of pleasure travel upon our noble river. Such a boat has long
been wanted on the river, and that want is at last supplied. The
owners, Messrs. Talbot & Richardson, have spared no pains to make
a swift, safe and pleasant boat so that excursionists upon the
Niagara can go safely, and there need not be the slightest
apprehension of danger. We were not able to attend the trial trip
of the QUEEN, but understand that it was pleasant. The river was
rough but the boat did not mind that; she stood up stiff and
staunch against the wind, and made grand time going round the
island. The party was entertained by the proprietors with a
lunch prepared in Jebb's best style, and at Falconwood and
Sheenwater received hospital attention. Our citizens know
nothing of the magnificence of the Niagara, doubtless in the
distance between Buffalo and the Falls the finest river on the
continent, the St. Lawrence excepted. We can recommend the
excursion around the island as particularly fine for we have
often made it, and can say without any puffing that the public
will be the losers if the beautiful RIVER QUEEN is not well
patronized.

The stm. RIVER QUEEN, which has been fitted up for the route
from Black Rock to Falconwood and Sheenwater, by Messrs. Talbot &
Richardson, of North Buffalom will make a trip around Grand
Island, stopping at Tonawanda, Sheenwater and Falconwood, on
Tuesday the 24th inst., leaving her dock at the foot of Amherst
St. at 11:00 A.M. As this is the only excursion trip which this
boat can make prior to going on her regular route, all persons
who have a desire to see the river and make the trip, should
avail themselves of the opportunity.
