Launched at Erie, Pa., May 2d at the shipyard of George Hardison, a schooner of 365 tons burthen, called the ELI BATES, and owned by Capt. W.C. Davison and Taintor & Washburn, of Buffalo, and Capt. S.M. Johnson of Chicago and commanded by Capt. J.T. Davison, who takes an interest in the vessel. She has been built strictly in accordance with the rules laid down in the pamphlet published by the Lake Underwriters Assoc. in August last, with other improvements; has 4 inch sealing, bolted edge ways every 2-3/4 inches from the bilge to gunnels; her standing rigging is of the best Russian hemp, and sails of No.1 cotton. Capt. Davison acknowledges the receipt of a splendid suit of colors, presented by Eli Bates, Esq., of Chicago the liberal gentleman, whose name she bears. - Morning Express.
