City of Milwaukee (Canal boat), 3 Jul 1875

Description
Full Text

The new Baxter canal steamer CITY OF MILWAUKEE was successfully launched from the yard of Mr. John H. Van Slyke in this city at noon today. She is the handsomest craft. As she sits in the water she draws just 11 1/2 inches on the even keel. This is good enough for a vessel as strong as she is. We do not desire to cast any reflections on the other boats, but it strikes us that the company would be better off today in steamer property if they had had them all constructed in Buffalo. Van Slyke's boats will stand a comparison with any afloat.
