      The mammoth steamship PERSIAN is about ready to launch at Cleveland, and will probably be placed in the water some day the present week. She is a "big-un."

      The monster steamer PERSIAN, built for the Winslows at Quayle & Co.'s yard, Cleveland, was launched on Saturday. She will carry 1,400 tons of ore, and about 75,000 bu. wheat. Her dimensions are: Length on deck, 255 ft.; beam 40 ft.; depth of lower hold, 12 ft.; upper hold 8 ft.; old measurement, 1,861 tons. She is ship rigged. Her foremast is 90 ft. in length and 26 inches in diameter; mizzenmast, 60 ft. and 26 inches in diameter; jigger, 85 ft., and 25 inches in diameter. The rigging is wire and worked on patent blocks, manufactured at Cincinnati. She is propelled by 2 high pressure engines. The boilers are made of 1/2 inch iron 18 ft. long and 8 1/2 ft. shell, and have been tested to 160 degrees, in accordance with the law. The sides of the boiler room are covered with tin. The wheel will make 80 or 90 revolutions a minute. On top of the wheel near the mainmast is a patent hoisting pony pump, with a capacity of pumping 500 gallons a minute. The vessel is so constructed as to be as to be equally adapted to carrying grain or ore. The officers are Capt. S. Rummage; First Engineer, M. Thomas; Second Engineer, A. Honeywell.
