THE STEAMER ALBANY.
I have frequently noticed in your paper the names of new steamboats which from time to time have made their appearance, with accounts of the symmetry and beauty of their structure, the elegance of their finish, and the splendor in which they were furnished, to say nothing of the graphic descriptions of the speed with which they "glide the surf clad bosom of the water." If credit is to be attached to this class of boats particularly, it should happen to them all; and a favorable notice of one which has not thus far been mentioned in the papers of this city, will only tend to equalize the generous tribute which of late is being paid to that spirit of enterprise, the effect of which has covered our lakes with floating palaces, beautiful almost beyond conception. Having been a passenger on the steamer ALBANY, and being fully convinced that she is in every, the most minute particular, entitled to rank among the first class of new boats, I feel that it is but just that you should place her beside her class-mates in your columns. The ALBANY is a new boat, built at Detroit the past summer by C.L. Gager, who owns and commands her, with John B. Peaugrand, mate. She is one of the fastest boats on the lakes, and offers to the travelling world accommodations which cannot fail of satisfying the most fastidious. And as, to passengers, "The Captain" and the "mate" are important personages, I ought to be able to say that the former is ever attentive to the wants of his passengers, and that the latter is a generous, whole-souled Frenchman's manner and a Frenchman's manner and a Frenchman's heart, and has been known to the travelling public for fifteen years as one of the most gentlemanly fellows, and one of the most accomplished seamen on the lakes.
