SCANLON LINE TUGS SOLD.
North Tonawanda, Feb. 4. - The Scanlon Crown Line of tugs has been purchased by Adam Hartman, a local tugman. In the deal the CHARLES S. PARNELL; MICHAEL DAVITT and the JOHN H. DeGRAFF have changed hands. This practically leaves the monopoly of handling the lake trade in Mr. Hartman's favor.
A few years ago a Tugman's Association was formed to keep up prices, but the coming of other boats split up the combine and a cutting of rates resulted. The continued loss during the past few years has forced one of the two big tug concerns to the wall. Mr. Hartman, it is said, will not advance prices.
