The Calvin Co. of Garden Island, Ont., launched on Jan. 4 the steamer INDIA. She is 212 feet in length, 37 feet beam, 15 feet depth, and is built of white oak. She is fitted with triple expansion engines, having cylinders of 18, 30 and 48 inches diameter by 30 inches stroke. Her propeller wheel is 10 feet 7 inches in diameter, with a pitch of 12 feet. Steam is supplied by two Scotch boilers, 11 feet 5 inches in diameter by 12 feet long, with 160 pounds pressure. The vessel is equipped with steam steering gear, etc.
