MARINE MATTERS
_______
Casualties on the Lakes the Past Season.
_______
Six Hundred and Twenty-one Disasters.
_______

Herewith we present our annual record of marine disasters which have occurred during the season just closed, in part gleaned from exchange papers, which have come to hand, but by far the greater number collected for and reported in our columns. The record is by no means complete, as numerous incidents have taken place at remote points which never reached the office of publication. In many instances, as will be seen, the amount of damages has been noted, but to effect this in every case would be simply impossible with any degree of correctness. The total number of disasters for 1866, we find to be 621, an excess over 1865 of 200 exactly. By past reference we find the yearly record to be as follows:

Total Number of disasters in 1860 377
" " " 1861 275
