From Hiran's Reminiscences: "The first schooner, or rather brig, built in Port Huron was built during the year 1835. She was christened the AMAZON. She was about 140 tons register, brig rigged and was owned by Mr. E.C. Dancroft. Six years later captain David Hagedon built the schooner HENRY HUBBARD. This schooner was owned by Hubbard and Carpenter. Afterwards Captain Hagedon built on his own account the schooners VENUS and DIAL. The schooners were commanded by Captain Hagedon in person. The old schooner DIAL now lies buried in mud and quicksand under the present Electric Light Works near McMorran's Mill."
