A letter from De Pryster to Powell, dated 10 days earlier, shows that two small vessels had been taken into the public service.
" The little sloops MAKANA and De PEYSTER navigating lake Huron are authorized by Lieu. Governor Sinclair. " "When I commanded at Mackinac those craft were upon Lake Superior, for the conveniency of transporting the goods from St. Mary's to the Great Carrying Place. Lieu. Governor Sinclair ordered them down the Falls and charted them some time ago for Government."
