NEW WINTER STEAMER.
The steamer F. & P. M. No. 1, built by the Detroit Dry Dock Company, was successfully launched Saturday afternoon. The steamer is intended to run as a summer and winter passenger and freight boat on Lake Michigan, between Ludington and Milwaukee, in connection with the Flint and Pere Marquette Railway, and one exactly similar to her, to be named F. & P. M. No.2 is nearing completion at the Springwells dry dock. Her principal dimensions are as follows:-- length, 140 feet; beam, 30 feet; depth of hold, 13 feet 6 inches. She is built with a bow similar to the MICHIGAN and WISCONSIN, and after the model of the Detroit River Ferry steamers, so as to be able to crush her way through the ice in winter. Her wood work forward is solid, and she will be heavily plated for ice-smashing. She is built of heavy timber and is diagonally iron strapped. She has a passenger cabin the full length of her promenade deck. Her engine is a for-and-aft compound with cylinders 21 and 37 x 36, built by the Dry Dock Engine Works, and will be supplied with steam from a steel boiler 8 feet 6 inches shell by 16 feet in length, and capable of working at a pressure of 110 pounds to the square inch.
