      Prosperous Condition of Brockville
Launch - Yesterday afternoon a beautiful Barge of the largest dimensions of the kind yet built for these waters was launched by Mr. Parkins Ship Builder from his Dock Yard in this town. She is Called the "BRITISH QUEEN," and is built for Messrs. Sanderson & Murray of this place. This Barge is destined to carry 130 tons, to be schooner rigged, and is intended to navigate the whole length of our waters laden, from the head of Lake Huron to Quebec. If she succeeds in conveying cargoes from the head of the upper lakes with safety, as it is intended she will, it will form a new era in our inland navigation, and will be a great saving of that time, labour and waste of property which now unavoidably occurs in the reshipment of goods between the upper ports and Montreal and Quebec. She is the last of eight vessels built by Mr. Parkins at this place during the season; four of which (Barges) were built for Messrs. Sanderson & Murray, three smaller ones built for Messrs. H. & S. Jones, and one for Messrs. Dickson [Dickinson] Hackett & Co. of Montreal.
We believe our Ship Yard is not equalled by any other in the Province, not only for its near proximity to the finest wood for ship building in the country, but also for the convenience and beauty of the working grounds and the facility and safety with which vessels are launched from them.
It is always with pleasure we sit down to record any event, however so minute, with which the prosperity of this, our adopted country, is identified; and we are sure the industrious Artisans and Mechanics of this town who have so long been employed by these enterprizing people, will join us in wishing them in their business, that success and prosperity, which their steady perseverence through thick and thin so richly deserve [Statesman]
Tenders called for 400 cords of firewood and 15,000 shingles at Dock Yard. 25th Sept.
