POWHATTEN Brig, lost anchors and chains in a gale at Mohawk Island, L. E., split sails &c.,and bore up for buffalo.

The brig POWHATTAN cleared for Chicago Friday evening, and when off Gull Island, lost her anchor, split some of her sails and was obliged to return to this port, where she arrive on Saturday morning.
