GALE, S.F. Brig in collision with Steamer DETROIT, near Chicago
      Buffalo Courier (casualty list)
      March 17, 1848

The Mail Steamboat DETROIT in leaving the harbor on Wed.Night with the mail for the east, came in collision with the Brig S.F. GALE. The GALE racked the steamboat in such a manner as to compel her to return for a refit. - - Chicago Journal
