BLOSSOM, L.A. Brig, ashore with a cargo of wheat in attempting to make Buffalo Harbor.
      Buffalo Courier (casualty list)
      March 17, 1848

      . . . . .

About 6 o'clock last evening the Brig LUCY A. BLOSSOM, loaded with wheat, was at anchor some 60 rods below the pier, where she had drifted the evening before, in an attempt to make the port, and the Schooner WATSON was engaged in lightening her. Suddenly the sky became overcast and a violent storm was threatened. Many were the conjectures in relation to the BLOSSOM, and groups began to collect along the dock, in the expectation of seeing her come ashore. It was conceded by all that she was in emminent danger, and with that noble daring which characterizes the true sailor, the following persons volunteered their services to bring her into port, viz: Captain Wilson, of Schr. EXCELSIOR: Captain Shepard of Stmr. CLEVELAND: Captain Salisbury, Stmr. SAM WARD: Captain Capron of the Brig BANNER and M.Gregory, 2nd. mate of Brig BANNER and a few others whose names we have forgotten. In a few moments they were on their way to the vessel, and having reached her, her heavy anchors were lowered into yawls, her sails hoisted, and beat to windward she reached the mouth of the harbor at the very height of the gale, and was brought gallantly into port amid the cheers of the assembled multitude. Shortly afterward the efforts of those on board the WATSON were also crowned with success, and she also reached port safe and sound. - Buffalo Comm.
