SCHOONER DRAKE ASHORE. -- The schooner DRAKE, a new vessel, owned by R.C. Winslow, of Cleveland, is ashore about three miles north of the harbor. She went on about half-past one o'clock Tuesday night, during the hardest part of the gale. The wind had shifted to the eastward, and she was carrying a press of canvas to keep off the shore when the mainsail blew out of the bolt ropes, leaving her nearly helpless. Perceiving that it was impossible to keep her off in her crippled condition, the captain scuttled her and ran her hard on in eight feet water. The bottom where she struck is sand, and it is thought that she will be got off without material damage after the gale subsides. She had a cargo of coal and lumber. -- Chicago Press, 20th.
