Chicago, Nov. 5. -- A heavy gale has prevailed for the past two days. The schooner MARK H. SIBLEY, with a cargo of iron and coal, struck on the bar at the mouth of the harbor. She was scuttled and sunk to prevent striking on the breakwater. Insured in the Chicago Mutual, and Aetna Hartford.

On Friday morning Capt. Warren of the Chicago Mutual Insurance Co., along with W. Berryman, again proceeded to the ill-fated schr. MARK H. SIBLEY, with 2 steam pumps, to see what could be done towards raising her. They got the steam pumps to work (and they worked admirably,) and toward evening she was emptied of water. They then proceeded with the lighters, and having taken about 220 tons of iron from her hold, the HAMILTON MORTON took her in tow, and on Saturday evening left her in the middle of the river on a mud bank near Lake Street bridge. Today she will again be pumped out and the balance of her cargo discharged, immediately after which she will be put on the drydock to be overhauled and repaired. - Chicago Press, Monday
