SEYMOUR, H.R. Brig, cargo wheat, wrecked head of lake Erie. Total Loss. Property
loss $15,000
      Buffalo Morning Express
      December 25, 1852 (casualty list)

      . . . . .

The brig SEYMOUR, Capt Lewis, which left this port 2 days ago is sunk near
the islands. She had 11,000 bu. wheat on board shipped by E.S. Johnson and
fully insured in the Buffalo Mutual; and $400 worth of high wines, insured in
Toledo Insurance office. We have not learned the particulars of the disaster.
Toledo Blade, 9th.

      . . . . .

The brig SEYMOUR, which was wrecked on Rattlesnake Island, in November last
has been raised by the agency of Camels, brought from Detroit, and brought to
Put-In-Bay by a steam tug belonging to Toledo. Mr. Edwards of the Island, from
whom we have the information, is of the opinion that her hull is not very badly
injured, though the full extent has not yet been ascertained with certainty.
She had been abandoned to the underwriters and by them resold to the original
owners who got her up.

      . . . . .

Mr. Edwards informs us that the brig H.R. SEYMOUR, lately raised and brought
to Put-In-Bay, has been thoroughly overhauled, and is found to be not seriously
damaged. Aside from the expense of getting her up, the cost of putting her into
service again will be comparatively light. - Sandusky Register
