STANDART Brig, split sails, lost anchor and chain and towed into Buffalo for repairs. Property loss $1,000
Feb. 28, 1855 (casualty list)
. . . . .
During the storm last Tuesday evening, several vessels bound out, and only
few miles distant, were somewhat disabled, but no serious damage was sustained,
so far as we are informed. The brigs MECHANIC and STANDART came into port
yesterday, having rode out the storm during the night, outside the "light." The
MECHANIC had her "fore-top-sail and jibs" carried away, and the STANDART lost
her big anchor and chains, besides being struck by lightning. Her mast was
considerably injured. She rode out the gale with her small anchor, and was
towed in by the tug HAMILTON MORTON, yesterday morning.
