DENMARK Schooner, ashore at Buffalo, load of corn. Property loss $5,000

      . . . . .

ASHORE.---The schooner DENMARK, Captain Munroe, which was bound from
Chicago to Ogdensburgh with 10,000 bushels corn, while endeavoring to make this
port on Thursday night, in the severe snow storm, broached to, and went ashore in
the Bay, nearly opposite the foot of Commercial Street. She had sprung a leak while
on her way down, and had put into Gravelly Bay. Her pumps, however, kept her
free. Most of the tugs belonging to this port, were either frozen in up the Creek, or
or engaged on vessels elsewhere. The DENMARK lies stern on, and lighters will
be sent to her this morning. She lies easy, and there was but little sea all day
yesterday, and she will probably be got off without much damage. She is owned by
C.Y. Richmond, of Chicago, and is insured for $5,000.

The schooner DENMARK was hauled off from the beach, near the lighthouse, on
Saturday afternoon, by the tug Wm.PECK, and brought into port. She had in about
2,500 bushels wet corn. The remainder of her cargo had been recovered. She does
not appear to have suffered much.
