COLLISION - The schooner SURPRISE, Capt. Kelly, came into port on Tuesday,
with her head-gear and jib-boom gone, and foremast in preventive stays. She
collided with the brig YOUNG AMERICA, Capt. Campbell, on the 30th. ult., off
Presque Isle, suffering the above damage herself, her fore-mast being knocked
out of the step. The YOUNG AMERICA was more severely injured, her jib-boom,
bowsprit and foremast-head being carried away, and mainmast so much injured that
when Capt. Parrish of the schooner ECHO met her at Mackinaw it was gone, and
the crew were busy rigging yards on a jury foremast. As she has not since been
heard of, fears are entertained for her safety. - Chicago Union.

possible both collisions took place, but unlikely. (SUNSHINE is doubtful)
