Brig CASTALIA, lost foremast, headsails and gear in gale on Lake Michigan. Property loss $1,700.

The effects of the gale appear to have been quite disastrous. It is reported that between 20 and 30 vessels are ashore on Lake Michigan. The brig CASTALIA lost her fore mast and head gear on Lake Michigan.
