COLLISION - The schooner DEFIANCE and brig WILLIAM TREAT, both belonging to the Lake Navigation Company, collided on the 27th, on Lake Huron. The schooner sunk soon after off Presque Isle. She was loaded with wheat for Oswego. The brig was loaded with lumber, and could not sink, but became water-logged and was towed by the tug RELIEF, into Presque Isle. The DEFIANCE, we subsequently learn, is a total loss. Her crew escaped without injury.

Captain T.A. Burke, of the schooner W.G. GRANT, reports picking up on Lake Huron, about 25 miles S. by E. 1/2 E. of Thunder Bay Island, a main boom 65 feet long, and a main gaff 36 feet long, which is supposed to belong to the schooner DEFIANCE. The captain observed these sticks pointing out of the water, and hove his vessel to in order to secure them, which he did with but little difficulty. He thinks the vessel lies at that point. Soundings taken on the spot show a depth of 35 fathoms.
