      Buffalo Commercial Advertiser
      January 31, 1857 (1856 casualty list)

      . . . . .

The schooner WYANDOTTE, with 19,000 bushels of wheat from Chicago, went on the break-water this morning, and filled. The damage is very serious, but the vessel will be got off. Insured.

      . . . . .

Captain Gager's steam pump was brought into operation on the schooner WYANDOTTE, sunk alongside the breakwater, yesterday, and the prospects are that she will be got into port. Nothing can be done with the bark REPUBLIC until the schooner is out of the way, when, if the weather continues favorable, there is bare possibility of her being saved.

      . . . . .

GOT OFF. - The schooner WYANDOTTE, which went on the break-water, and sunk at the mouth of the harbor some two weeks since, was gotten up and into port this morning, with the aid of Capt. Gager's steam pump. She is badly injured, and it is estimated that the whole expense of getting her up and putting her in good repair, will amount to $5,000. We understand that Capt. Gager's pump worked admirably, and is considered by many far superior to the Palmer pump in calm weather. The latter pump was also on board, but choked badly.
