BURNING OF THE PROPELLER M.B. SPAULDING. - About 4 o'clock this morning the propeller M.B. SPAULDING, belonging to the American Transportation Co., took fire (as is suppposed, from combustion in the hold,) and burned to near the water's edge. She was lying at the time at the dock of the Company in their slip, Erie Basin, and their immense warehouse filled with valuable merchandise, had a very narrow escape. The SPAULDING was nearly ready to sail for Detroit, and had on board about 150 tons of general merchandise, all of which is destroyed. It was consigned to the Michigan Central Railroad, and to J.L. Hurd & Co. The propeller was valued at about $15,000, and is a total loss; no insurance. The cargo is mostly insured in New York offices. The total loss will not fall short of $100,000.
