On the gale on Lake Erie, the schr. CHEROKEE collided with the schr. BAY STATE but did not sink as we stated yesterday. She was loaded with RR iron and came to anchor during the storm 20 miles West of Grand River. Was afterwards abandoned. A tug went and got her in. - Buffalo Commercial , 6th

      . . . . .

Capt. Stoddard, of the schooner BAY STATE, writes us from Port Colborne today, the particulars of the following disasters. He says that soon after leaving this port he was obliged to put back and take shelter under Long Point, where he let go his anchors about 4 o'clock on Tuesday P.M.
About 5, the schooner CHEROKEE came down across his bows. At that time the BAY STATE was pitching bows under at every surge. With the collision the CHEROKEE's main mast, and then her fore mast went by the board, and in about half an hour she was a complete wreck. The BAY STATE lost only her head gear,
and soon after shipped her cables and ran into Port Colborne, taking with her the crew of the CHEROKEE.
Capt Stoddard says he shall proceed on his voyage as soon as the weather will permit, minus his anchors and chains. He attributes the loss of the CHEROKEE to mismanagement on the part of the captain in endeavoring to forge his vessel across the bows of the BAY STATE in such a gale.
