MARINE DISASTERS - WRECKS AT THE MOUTH OF THE HARBOR
Marine disasters continue to thicken upon us. Yesterday the wind blew a gale from the
south, making the water in river and harbor very low, and rolling a tremendous sea around
the piers. ......
The bark STANARD, at anchor outside all day in a sinking condition, had her colors at
half-mast at dark. She had sent on shore for a steam pump, but the sea was too heavy to
operate on board of her, and there was not water sufficient to bring her in, so that nothing
could be done for her. .. - Chicago Dem. Press, Nov. 7. (part)
