Schooner WILLIAM TREAT, ashore near Milwaukee. Got off.
      Buffalo Commercial Advertiser
      January 31, 1857 (1856 casualty list)

      . . . . .

The waves rolled very high all day, though the wind had nearly gone down. The schooner SAM HALE, which was out in the gale, came in waterlogged.
In the morning, the Captain of the staunch steam tug, DECATUR, seeing a vessel in evident distress of the North Point, ventured out to her assistance, though he states that he would not have dared to try it, if he had realised the height of the sea, except to save life. On reaching the vessel, it was found to be the schooner W.R. TREAT, of Cleveland, disabled, having lost most of her spars, and being much damaged in her rigging. The DECATUR brought her in, till just as she got to the old harbor entrance, she unfortunately struck the South
pier, and went ashore to the south of it. - Milwaukee Sentinel, 4.

The Chicago Press, of the 9th, says the Brig TREAT has been got off the beach at Milwaukee, and taken inside. She was not materially injured.
