      The new prop. SUSQUEHANNA, of the New York and Erie line, ran on Point
Pelee last Tuesday afternoon about 1:00, when on her way from Dunkirk to this
city. The weather was very foggy indeed, so that it was impossible to see but a
very short distance ahead. Capt. Keith was himself in the pilot house, and the
propeller was proceeding at about half speed. All at once the breakers upon the
reef were discovered and the engine was immediately reversed, but the vessel was
so near that she went on before her progress could be fully checked. As it was she
could not have gone on very hard. She had on but a light load, and that was so
placed that the propeller would receive but little injury from pounding upon the
bottom, unless the sea should become very rough. The clerk and mate came
ashore in a small boat, procured a horse and buggy, and came through to the city,
arriving here about 4:00 yesterday morning. The stmr. MAY QUEEN left about
10:00 to go to her assistance, taking a steam pump with her to be used in case it
was found necessary to scuttle her. As the wind was favorable yesterday, it is not
probable that this was found necessary. Little difficulty was anticipated in getting
her off.

      The prop. SUSQUEHANNA, which ran aground upon Point Pelee Reef on Last
Tuesday afternoon, arrived at her dock yesterday morning, having been extricate
from her position by the aid of the stmr. MAY QUEEN and the tug BRUCE. After
she ran upon the reef the wind freshened so that Captain Keith considered it
necessary to sink her by opening the ports. This was done, and she settled down
upon the bottom in such a position that she received no injury from pounding. The
MAY QUEEN took down a steam pump, with which she was pumped out, but it was
then found impossible to move her. The tug then lightened her of her cargo of
about 70 tons of freight, which was placed on board the MAY QUEEN. Both boats
then fastened to her, and pulled her off without difficulty. She came up and took
another load of freight, and went on her trip to Dunkirk, being entirely uninjured.
      Capt. Viger, of the MAY QUEEN lost a trip by his efforts for her relief, but
remained by her until she was in safety. His exertions were unwearied and
successful, for which he deserves all due credit.

      PROPELLER SUSQUEHANNA OFF,---This Propeller, which got on Point Pelee
Reef last Tuesday, was got off by the aid of the Steamer MAY QUEEN and tug
BRUCE, and arrived in port yesterday morning. Soon after getting on, as the wind
was blowing quite hard, her water cocks were opened and she was filled in order to
prevent her pounding. On the arrival of the MAY QUEEN, she was pumped out and
lightened and then was pulled off by the united efforts of the MAY QUEEN and the
BRUCE. Her hull was entirely uninjured, and she sailed for Dunkirk again last
evening with a fair load. - Detroit Advertiser.
