THE LATE GALE. - Capt. Moore of the RUBY, informs us that those who have
resided at Port Huron for nine years past, assert that they have never witnessed a
more violent gale on Lake Huron than that which prevailed last Wednesday, nor
have they seen the water so high.
The scow CERRO GORGO, bound to Detroit with a load of telegraph poles, was
met by the gale twelve miles out in the lake. She became water-logged, and
capsized. The crew made a fortunate escape in the small boats. The scow was
finally driven to a point two miles above Lakeport, where she struck on the beach.
She has been stripped and abandoned. Her cargo floated off and was, of course,
lost. - Detroit Tribune.
