J.H. HARMON Brig, damaged by collision with the Scow LIME ROCK off Madison Dock, Lake Erie.
      Buffalo Morning Express
      March 11, 1861 (Casualty List 1860)

      . . . . .

A letter from Mr. Daniel Hayward, of Madison, Lake County, was received this
morning stating that on Tuesday the stern frame of the J.H. HARMON, of Chicago,
came on shore at Madison Dock. The boat gripes and davit falls had been cut away,
showing that the boat had been cleared away in haste. Mr. Hayward thinks that the
vessel has been recently wrecked in some way to the northward of Madison, as the
wind has been blowing from that quarter for 2 or 3 days. The J.H. HARMON was
a brig of 277 tons, built at Detroit in 1854, and is supposed to be owned by Peck,
Brown & Co., of Chicago. - Cleveland Herald, Thurs.

      . . . . .

We are glad to be able to state that the report of the loss of the brig J.H
HARMON, of this port, is without foundation. She came in collision with a scow
in Lake Huron, and had her davits and her quarter, upon which was her name,
carried away. The brig, however, received no material damage, and made her way
safely to Buffalo, from whence a dispatch was received yesterday morning
announcing her safety. Her quarter was washed ashore near Cleveland, and gave
rise to the belief that she had been wrecked. - Chigo Times, Wed.

Note:- The May 4th. mention of a collision with a scow in Lake Huron is
unlikely. It is probably Lake Erie
