COLLISIONS. -- The propeller DUNKIRK, which took departure deep loaded for Buffalo last evening, collided with the schooner E. S. J. BEMIS, about 11 o'clock, near the foot of Fighting Island, causing the schooner to sink immediately afterwards. The DUNKIRK was struck just abaft her starboard bow, but did not seriously damage her hull. Her upper works and one side of her cabins forward were considerably damaged. One man belonging to the boat received a cut or bruises on the head, but is not seriously injured. The wind was blowing heavy at the time, the night dark, and a large number of vessels lay at anchor in the river. The propeller returned to the city this morning. The Captain of the BEMIS has chartered a tug with steam pump to raise his vessel, which we learn is laden with railroad iron.
At the time of the collision above stated, other vessels in the immediate vicinity, while endeavoring to clear each other, received some slight damages also. The brig BANNER carried away her foreyard, and lies hard aground near the upper light. The schooner L. J. FARWELL lost her jibboom, and the bark NORTHERN LIGHT, of Clayton, met with a like disaster. --- Detroit Tribune, 18th.
