Extract from a letter dated Detroit, Oct. 25, in reference to vessels ashore near Presque Isle, Lake Huron, reported in our yesterday's paper:
"The vessels ashore at Presque Isle went on, on the night of the 22nd., and at about the same time. All except the UNION are close together, about one and a half miles from the light (above.) The weather was thick at the time, and quite dark, but a free use of the lead would have warned them of their danger. The NELSON has gone to pieces, and the MASON, I fear, will prove a total loss, as her box has raised her decks up considerable, and one side of them (the decks) are partly gone. Her grain is all wet. The GREY had no wet grain when the parties left, Wednesday morning, and will probably be got off if the weather continues good. The FLYING CLOUD, of Clayton, is not insured---cargo all wet.
The other vesels are small, and are reported as not being damaged much. Tugs OSWEGO and CANADIAN left today noon in charge of Capt. James Jones, with steam pumps, &c."
