Schooner J.S. NEWHOUSE, of 292 tons, owned in Chicago by Masters Co. Bound from Erie Pa. to Chicago was burned and scuttled in Traverse Bay, Lake Michigan in May 1871. Loss to ship, $10,000. Loss t0 Cargo, $6,000. Insurance on ship, $8,000. Insurance on cargo, $3,000

The schooner NEWHOUSE was burned and scuttled in Grand Traverse Bay. She was built by peck & Masters in Cleveland in 1856 and measured 381 tons. She was raised and rebuilt.

      SCHOONER ON FIRE. - Capt. Sisson of the propeller St. LOUIS, reports having met the schooner J.S. NEWHOUSE off Grand Traverse Bay, scuttled and on fire. The NEWHOUSE was loaded with wood. Her deck load, excepting what was on fire, had been thrown overboard. Her cabin was all burnt out, and her port quarter and mainmast were also burned away. When the St. LOUIS passed her, the fire appeared to be under control. - Milwaukee Wisconsin, 31st.

SCHOONER NEWHOUSE. - This vessel, which was sunk in Grand Traverse Bay, is reported to be lying under water some six or seven feet, and can be raised without much difficulty.
