Welland Canal Notice

This important channel of communication with the upper lakes, will be open for the passage of vessels by the first week in April, at the latest. Extensive repairs have been made during the winter, and every exertion will be used to maintain the canal in good order, throughout the ensuring season.

Forwarders, and others concerned, are particularly requested to impress upon the masters of vessels, the necessity of presenting the to the Company's collector, correct bills of lading. They will in all cases be required to make oath to their correctness, and any false swearing will be punished with the utmost rigour of the law.

Masters of vessels will be required to pay the full amount of tolls on their cargoes, before they can receive a clearance, or be permitted to pass through the canal.
