Welland Canal Election - The annual election of directors of this corporation, for the ensuring year, was held at the company's office, in this village, on the 6th inst., when the following named gentlemen were duly returned by the shareholders - viz: Wm. Hamilton Merritt, Esq., of St. Catharines, and George Keefer, Esq., of Thorold - who together with the Hon. J. S. Macaulay, of Toronto the Hon John Willson, of Saltfeet, and Doct. Joseph Hamilton, of Queenston, directors on the part of the government, now constitute the board. On the 8th Mr. Merritt was appointed president of the Company.
