SHERMAN, GEORGE Bark, lost foretopmast on Lake Erie.
Marine Disasters 1867, Lake Erie
Toledo Blade December 21, 1867
The Detroit Post says that a night or two after the removal of the light ship from Colchester Reef, lake Erie, the bark GEORGE SHERMAN struck heavily on the above shoal, but fortunately having a strong wind was enabled to crowd over and proceed on her voyage without sustaining serious damage. The light was removed a few days earlier than was intended in consequence of a defect being discovered in her cable which needed immediate repairs in the event of her remaining there any longer.
